Home ground

I live in the North East, so this is the collection I add to most. It runs from the castles on the Northumberland coast to Hadrian's Wall, Kielder and the Cheviot Hills, and back into Newcastle.

I can spend hours at a location waiting for the light or hiking to find the best composition. Plenty of these places are a short walk from the car. Some take a lot longer.

Crammel Linn The largest falls in Northumberland, on the River Irthing where it marks the border with Cumbria. My sat nav gave up on the way and I followed a farm track for about a mile before I found the right road. Read the full story
Hindhope Linn, Kielder Smaller than I expected when I got there, but within five minutes in that enchanted-looking forest it had become one of my favourite places. It's a five to ten minute walk from the car park. Read the full story
